The Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP) is a public policy, research and technical assistance organization. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., CSSP works with state and federal policymakers and with communities across the country. We rely on data, extensive community experience and a focus on results to promote smart policies that improve the lives of children and their families and achieve equity for those too often left behind.

Our mission is to develop public policies and practices that strengthen families and communities to produce equal opportunities and a better future for all children.

For more than 30 years, CSSP has identified, created and tested promising practices and policies. Through all our initiatives, CSSP promotes strong families and healthy, well-educated and safe children by facilitating learning, providing research and offering technical assistance to community leaders and policymakers. Our work covers several broad areas:

Promoting public policies that strengthen vulnerable families.

Mobilizing a national network to strengthen families, prevent child abuse and promote optimal development for young children.

Assisting tough neighborhoods to help two generations – parents and their children – succeed.

Educating residents to be effective consumers securing better goods and services.

Reforming child welfare systems.

Promoting, through all our work, the achievement of equitable outcomes for children of all races, ethnicities and income levels.
