Position Title: Chemistry Laboratory Intern

Location: Assembly Drive. Rockford, IL 61109

Department: Lab

Shift: 1st

Reporting To: Director, Laboratory

Responsible For (Staff): None

Brief Project Description: The Laboratory will have an intern to learn vital skills and assist the Analytical Chemistry Department in day-to-day testing. This may include Appearance testing, FTIR testing, Laboratory Balance Operation, UV-VIS operation and training on the HPLC equipment. In addition, this intern will also have responsibilities in the Analytical Chemistry Department typing existing methods for a legacy PCI customer that does not have their methods converted into PCI format. It is estimated that there are 200+ methods to convert. This is a first shift, M-F position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Learn day to day operations of the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory (perform various testing, daily/weekly verifications) Assist Chemists in daily testing activities (Preparation of media/solutions, shadowing on various chemical analysis) Assist the Laboratory Assistant with day to day Laboratory activities such as washing dishes, operating the dishwasher, putting away supplies/reagents, etc. Convert existing analytical chemistry methods into PCI format to aid Laboratory in streamlining testing procedures per customer Understanding technical writing requirements for working in a Laboratory/GMP environment. Attendance to work is an essential function of this position

Performs other duties as assigned by Manager/Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Working toward Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • College Level Math Skills
  • Advanced Computer Skills: Ability to perform the most complex computer tasks and operate various computer programs.
  • Full Professional Proficiency: Ability to speak, read, and write fluently and accurately on all levels pertinent to professional needs.
  • High Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where there is only limited standardization. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions that may be provided in various forms.
