A Brief Overview
This role involves engaging in and coordinating complex research activities and providing advanced support for faculty investigators.The research coordinator will report to Dr. West and will follow a hybrid work schedule. The role will work closely with Dr. Lara Varpio, Dr. Dorene Balmer, Research Associate Hannah Anderson, and other faculty members conducting health professions education research in the Department of Pediatrics and potentially throughout CHOP. Although not a requirement, the ideal candidate would have experience using qualitative research methods including conducting interviews, leading focus groups, working with qualitative research databases, and other aspects of project management and data collection.

What you will do

  • Collaborates in the design and delivery of programs that meet the training and educational needs of the research enterprise.
  • Coordinates the distribution and collection of needs assessment and evaluation tools
  • Tracks, analyzes and reports on measures of training needs and outcomes
  • Gathers and reviews appropriate course materials; identifies content area specialists, as needed; trains content-responsible individuals in the delivery of effective courses
  • Ensures smooth delivery of live presentations through publicity, scheduling, registration of participants, and preparation of course materials, and works with technical and other staff on the support of on-line courseware
  • Ensures timely and accurate record keeping for all educational activities and maintains educational tracking database
  • Serves as liaison between Director and Departments and specific target groups
  • Assists in the administration of project plans and implementation of large-scale training initiatives such as Clinical Research Training, Research Administration Training, Investigator Training, Responsible Conduct of Research and special learning events by developing course objectives, outlines, and syllabi; and working with course faculty on specific content and delivery methods
  • Develops content for training modules and serves as a trainer in areas of expertise
  • Attends CHOP meetings and committees
  • Collaborates to develop appropriate training, orientation and professional development opportunities for research trainees (postdoctoral fellows, training grant supported fellows, CHOP-based graduate students and physician fellows)
  • Performs related tasks as assigned.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Master's Degree Education, Biomedical Science or health care area Preferred
  • Doctorate Education, Biomedical Science or health care area Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years experience in strategic program planning, development, and evaluation Required
  • At least five (5) years of experience in strategic program planning, development, and evaluation Preferred
  • Previous research administration experience Preferred
  • Previous experience in a research related environment Preferred
  • Previous managerial or supervisory experience Preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Experience conducting clinical or basic research (e.g., as research assistant/associate, postdoctoral fellow, coordinator) preferred
  • Experience in the implementation and evaluation of training programs (university, corporate, organization-wide programs/plans) preferred
  • Experience in participating in project teams in planning, organizing and carrying out tasks or assignments
  • Must possess knowledge of the regulatory standards, an understanding of the institutional context within which the research is conducted, familiarity with scientific method and practices, and the skills to facilitate constructive discussion of ethical dilemmas.
  • Has the functional/technical skill to perform in a Research Administration leadership role.
  • Ability to act as liaison with faculty and trainee groups for the purpose of facilitating training and development programs in research areas
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in a variety of formal presentation settings -- one-on-one, small and large groups.
  • Comfortable relating to multiple levels of staff and leadership.
  • Values diversity and demonstrates a high tolerance for interacting with people of diverse backgrounds, perspectives.
  • Ability to delegate/assign tasks and responsibilities, set clear objectives, coach and manage outcomes.
  • Mature interpersonal skills; able to build constructive and effective relationships using tact and diplomacy at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to plan, organize work and use time effectively and efficiently; scopes out length and difficulty of tasks/projects and follows to completion. Results oriented.
  • Excellent writing/speaking skills; ability to speak/write clearly in a variety of communication settings; practices attentive and active listening
  • Maintain composure under pressure
